Red Mango is the latest frozen yogurt franchise to hit the Kansas City market. Started in South Korea in 2002, its first U.S. location was in 2007, in Los Angeles. It has expanded rapidly and is now in 24 states. Red Mango’s concept is similar to Moshi Yo‘s in Leawood, both featuring tart Korean frozen yogurt with probiotics and all natural ingredients to promote a healthy immune system.
If you’re looking for typical ice cream flavors like chocolate and pralines ‘n cream, go find a Baskins & Robbins. At Red Mango you’ll find pomegranate by POM, Tangomonium, Madagascar Vanilla and Original. All nonfat, 30 calories an ounce.
Red Mango is do-it-yourself. Grab a cup (big and bigger), fill it up at one of the self-serve machines and then add toppings, which include cut up fruit and berries and well as less healthy choices such as cereal, nuts and chocolate. At 39 cents an ounce, the tab can add up in a hurry, but at least you can feel good about your splurge.
Red Mango’s first Kansas City location is inside a UMKC dorm, which would seem to be a smart move. And it’s close to where I live, so I’ve already signed up for a Red Mango Club card.
